Just doing a quick update to let all my millions of readers know that I'm still alive and kicking!

Married life has been fun thus far. I highly recommend it to anyone who is considering it. Two and a half months into it, I haven't run into any problems that were not covered by the warranty.

My new job has been interesting as well. For those of you who aren't aware, I'm back at South Central Planning and Development Commission. I've been doing traffic surveying and learning GIS mapping.

Well, that's about all there is to update at this time. Continue to check back often!!! :)

You know, lots of people have been giving Hillary alot of criticism saying she's a liar and this and that. I find her, though, to be very brave. Watch this video to see what I mean:

Wedding Planning Update - posted by Molly on 1/28/2008

Who says that planning a wedding is stressful? For sure it hasn't been for us. I mean we have the usual "Oh my goodness..this is really happening!!" kind of fear, but it's all been working out wonderfully.

After our engagement, we had set on February 29th as the date. A lot of people comment that we will only have an anniversary every 4 years. That may be true, but Josh won't get out of celebrating! On the 3 non-Leap years, we're going to celebrate on February 28th AND March 1st. And he thought he was getting off the hook!!! Besides, even though there won't always be a February 29th, I'm sure there is a millisecond between 11:59.59 and 12 am that would count for our anniversary.

There are a lot of things to get ready for a wedding...the dresses, flowers, food, location. We had already talked about getting married at our church in Thibodaux, so that one was easy. And they have a reception hall.

Dresses...I had looked around for one, but had decided that I didn't want to spend much more the $100 on one. I didn't need it to be fancy, just to look good and fit me. Well, David's Bridal didn't really have any that were $99(like their commercial says) unless I was a size 24. I can't justify gaining 100 pounds to fit into a cheap wedding dress. A close friend of mine from high school told me that her dress from senior prom was a wedding dress and she offered it to me. It's about one size too big, but it shouldn't be too hard to alter it. What's better than a free dress?? A free dress that fits and looks beautiful, which this one will be. As far as brides maids dresses go, we searched around at about 7 different stores and couldn't really find anything. I wasn't looking for a particular color, as long as it was cheap and there was a size for all 3 girls. We got lucky at Macy's and found these really nice light blue dresses for only $40!!! The best part is that there were only 3 left and they were all the right size. Can you say "PTL!!"?

Flowers...Eh, I haven't really looked into them. My plan is to actually just buy a couple of bouquets from the store and use the flowers for the corsages and for the men to wear. I'll also buy one for me. It's actually pretty smart. Most people pick the flower they want and then search around for the best price. Why the heck will it matter as long as they are pretty flowers. I don't like any one particular one, so I'll get what jumps out at me when I go the day before my wedding. Besides, the minute you tell a florist that it's for a wedding, the prices double.

Food...Since we only had 9 weeks from engagement to Wedding date, food was going to be hard to plan. Originally, we wanted to just let all the people who offered to help cook a little bit of the same course, and then my parents were going to provide the rest. That was looking like a hard task to coordinate and we wouldn't of had the platters to put everything on. Well, Josh's parents are so stinkin awesome. I guess Ms. Tena is more experienced with this stuff than I am, so she saw the problems that would come in doing that. She and Mr. Randy casually offered to get someone to cook the "main dish." At first, they knew a guy, but he wouldn't be able to help. Josh's Aunt Cindy is best friends with a lady who manages the Ramada Inn and the restaurant inside. They contacted her and got it set up for her to be able to do the food. I was visiting with Aunt Cindy and she showed me the list of foods that they had written out. This wasn't just a stinkin main dish of jambalaya and chicken fettuccini. Mr. Randy and Ms. Tena listed sandwiches, meatballs, and about 5 or 6 other foods that they wanted to serve. That was definitely more than just a shock to me. Holla...lujah.

My same friend who is letting me use her dress also offered me the decorations they used at the reception from her wedding a month ago. When I went to pick them up, it was more than just decorations. There were a couple hundred forks, spoons, knives, plates, and toothpicks and all the napkins we would need. That definitely makes a lot less for my parents to have to buy.

These last 4 weeks, I have definitely felt God blessing us in everything. All the planning and anything that could have become an obstacle hasn't gotten a chance to be one. I feel like since back in October, when God allowed me to get everything set up to move out here, He has gotten everything to fall into place for this to happen. Now, I'm not just trying to be cliche-ish in saying some of these things. If you have known anyone who has tried to plan a wedding, you would know how hard it is and how expensive it is. Josh and I have yet to experience any of those difficulties. I definitely look forward to these next 5 weeks with anticipation and look forward to the rest of my life!

Breaking news!! Hillary Clinton's mom does, indeed, support her daughter:

So, if my mom thinks I would make a good president, that would be reason enough for you to vote for me, right?

In related news, oddly enough, Timothy McVeigh's parents also supported him through his trials. They thought he was a "good person."

I love you! - posted by Josh on 12/3/2007

Don't ever say I'm "ashamed" of you!

Bald Eagle - posted by Josh on 11/27/2007

While I was on my way to work this morning, believe it or not, I saw a bald eagle. And I'm not talking about flying up in the sky bald eagle either. I'm talking eating carrion on the side of the road bald eagle. Here he is:

I was on the road behind Walmart in Thibodaux, going towards Chackbay. If you haven't been on it, it this old third-world type bumpy road through the middle of the cane field. As I was driving along, I saw some birds around a dead dog or something - not very uncommon for this area. It looked to be a couple of crows and a buzzard, also not uncommon.

As I got closer however, the crows flew off, but the buzzard stayed. Then, the buzzard picked it's head up to look at me. It was then that I realized that I wasn't looking at a buzzard, but a bald eagle.

I was the only car on the road, so I slowed down. It was about ten feet from my car. I just sat and looked at it. It didn't move, but just watched me, then went back to eating the dog. I pulled out my cell phone and then inched up a bit. It looked back at me, spread out its wings, picked up the dog and flew into the cane field a bit. I was impressed that he didn't seem scared and fly away like most birds. He just seemed aggravated that I was bothering him.

Here's a chart showing the bird's migrating patterns. Notice LA is part of it's winter migration, though not, apparently, part of it's nesting area.

Slowing Down - posted by Josh on 11/14/2007

Awkward thought for the week:

Yesterday for lunch I ate a can of tuna fish and an orange. Lately I've been going to one of the two fast food placed in Vacherie for my lunch, but yesterday I just decided to bring my lunch. Typically, I don't bring my lunch for a variety of reasons:

  • I'm too busy rushing out of my house in the morning to remember to bring one.
  • It's faster just to pick up something from Subway or Sonic.
  • Bringing a lunch requires some sort of advanced planning and preparation. I have to make sure I have the required food items and sufficient system to transport my meal to work.

It's not that I don't want to bring my lunch, it's just that when you begin to add up all the factors, it just hasn't been "practical."

Yesterday, however, as I was peeling my orange, I began to think about refreshingness of the simplicity of a slower-paced life. I think for a few years during my late adolescence and early 20-something years I was labeled as "lazy." Or, maybe it wasn't an actual label, but the fear of being labeled that way. Whatever it was, since that time, I've filled my schedule with lots of running around and doing things to try to justify my existence. Because I'm scared of people thinking I'm lazy or that I don't have a "real job," I sometimes think I push myself to do more than I should.

Back to the point, as I was peeling my orange, and just thinking about how much of a time-waster it was (wishing they came pre-peeled), I began to think about other things that I "rush through" instead of taking my time, enjoying the moment, and even making a better decision. For example, instead of just grabbing a coke from the fridge, I could boil some water and make some tea. Instead of stopping by a burger place, I could by some meat and make a few days worth of burgers. Instead of living out the dryer, I could actually fold my clothes and put them away. I don't do these things, though, because I feel the pressure of needing to do the big things.

I think I'm beginning to ramble, so I will stop now.

El Pollo Una Poco - posted by Josh on 11/8/2007

I'm having a day where I've accomplished absolutely nothing. I woke up this morning and, as I was leaving my house, noticed I had a flat tire. Actually, that is a bit misconstrued. I had actually driven to my parents house, wearing sandals, jeans, and a thin, short-sleeved tee-shirt, and was going back home to get ready for my day when I noticed my tire was flat. There was frost on the ground. I was very cold. So were my tools to change the tire.

To make a long story short, I spent my morning at a local tire place getting the tire plugged. I know how to do it myself, it's just usually faster to go and let the "professionals" do it. Unfortunately, today did not fall into that "usual" category as I was there nearly an hour.

I then drove to a coffee shop to do some work. I've been here about 2 1/2 hours, and all I've done is read some news stories thus far. We've got some interesting stuff going on today, though.

With all this going on, I figured, what the heck. Let me complete the rest of my half hour with a rambling blog post. I have no point or purpose. No entertaining story or quirky joke. Just a random rambling of words.

Oh, I did hear some bad news today. Because of this Writer's Guild Strike going on, Fox has decided to indefinitely postpone production of 24. I'm a bit bummed about that, as I do thoroughly enjoy the show.

Well, back to doing something semi-worthwhile, I guess...
